In 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin, visited Mount Athos to mark the 1,000 years celebration of Russian Orthodox Monasteries in the area. Admission to the Monastery of Mount Athos is allowed exclusively to men. All applications are processed via the Pilgrimage Bureau.
