At Ammon Zeus Luxury Beach Hotel, we take immense pride in our rich heritage and deep-rooted traditions. One of the most cherished events we host annually is the celebration of the Feast of Saint Panteleimon. This Saturday, July 27th, we invite you to join us in commemorating this revered saint, known as the “healer” of Christianity, at our historic chapel.
The small church of Saint Panteleimon, nestled in the back gardens of our hotel, dates back to the 19th century. This sacred structure was once part of the Russian Orthodox Monastery of Saint Panteleimon, a branch of Mt. Athos. When the hotel was built in the 1960s, the owners preserved the chapel as a tribute to the saint and the local community’s religious heritage. The hotel itself is constructed on the site where the stone cells of the monastery monks once stood, creating a unique blend of history and modern luxury.
Every year on July 27th, we hold a special litany in honor of Saint Panteleimon. This service, open to all guests and the general public, offers a rare opportunity to experience an authentic Greek Orthodox liturgy. It is a moment of spiritual reflection and community, allowing our guests to witness the deep faith and traditions that define Greek Orthodox Christianity.
Saint Panteleimon, originally named Pantaleon, was born to a wealthy pagan father and a Christian mother in Nicomedia. Despite drifting away from Christianity after his mother’s death, he returned to the faith after studying medicine and performing miraculous healings. His most notable miracle involved healing a blind man by invoking the name of Jesus, which led to his father’s conversion to Christianity.
Saint Panteleimon’s reputation as a healer spread, and he used his wealth to help the poor. However, during the Diocletian persecution, envious colleagues denounced him to the emperor. Despite attempts to make him renounce his faith, Panteleimon stood firm, performing miracles that affirmed his belief in Christ. He was eventually martyred, and his legacy as a healer lives on, making him one of the most venerated saints in Greece.
We warmly invite you to be part of this meaningful celebration at Ammon Zeus Luxury Beach Hotel. Whether you are staying with us or visiting for the day, the Feast of Saint Panteleimon provides a unique opportunity to connect with the spiritual and cultural traditions of Kallithea. Come and experience the profound sense of history and community that our hotel embodies.
