Dating back to the 1960s, it is the very first hotel ever created in Halkidiki, originally situated on land owned by Mount Athos and once home to the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon.

The Temple of Ammon Zeus

The Temple of Ammon Zeus was established in the 8th century B.C. by the Euboeans, who worshipped Dionysus and the Nymphs in a cave on the site. 

Over time, the temple underwent architectural transformations, including the addition of an altar and a magnificent Doric-style temple in the 4th century B.C. Adorned with intricate clay tiles and marble renovations dating back to the 3rd or 2nd century B.C., the temple stands as a captivating blend of art, spirituality, and cultural expression within its sacred walls. 

Despite its incomplete state, scholarly efforts have reconstructed its historical significance, offering visitors a journey through time and a reflection on humanity’s pursuit of transcendence.

The Sanctuary of Asclepius

The Sanctuary of Asclepius, located adjacent to the Temple of Ammon Zeus in Kallithea, Halkidiki, holds significant historical and cultural importance. Dedicated to the Greek god of healing, Asclepius, this sanctuary served as a sacred site where pilgrims sought remedies for ailments and divine intervention.

Visitors can explore the remains of this ancient healing centre, which likely included sanctuaries, altars, and possibly therapeutic baths or springs.

The Monastery of St. Panteleimon

In the 11th century, The Ammon Zeus Luxury Beach Hotel’s location, potentially identified as Neapoli or Palaiochora, held a significant position in Kallithea in Halkidiki. 

Under the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Monastery of St. Panteleimon of Mount Athos, the village flourished. Through agricultural activities and assistance from monks, the area thrived, with the unveiling of the Temple of Ammon Zeus adding to its historical significance. 

Refugees who visited the monastery at the time brought precious relics, enriching the village’s cultural heritage and resilience, connecting it to the legacy of Kallithea and Halkidiki.

Where ancient architecture encounters modernity

The Ammon Zeus Luxury Beach Hotel’s management has kept a great part of the monastery untouched, offering the visitors the ambience atmosphere of its medieval origins.

During their stay, the guests get the chance to see the “Beach Wall,” a well-preserved relic of the original monastery, which stands as a poignant reminder of the hotel’s monastic roots.
